AUCKLAND CREMATION SOCIETY. A ckxkkat, meeting of the Auckland Crcin.i----(•ion Society was held last, night, Mr. -I. Slator iii tho chair, in the absence of the president, Mr. M. M. MeCallnm. It was ref-olv-ed, "That subscribers be a-ked to pay up their current subscriptions of 2s 6(1 per annum, to defray the expenses of placing ho objects of the society before the public." It was also resolved, "That a subscription list Ix> started, in order to provide funds to erect a crematorium, by donations, or by taking up shares in a company.'' The sum of £30 10s was subscribed in the loom. It. was announced that Dr. J. S. I'urdv, district health officer, had promised to give a lecture on cremation, at a dale to lie announced. KM PI RE VETERANS' ASSOCIATION. The quarterly general committee meeting of members ot tho Empire Veterans' Association of Auckland was hold at the Drill Hall yesterday, Captain H. (i. Archer, E.N., presiding. Five members were reported as having passed away during the quarter. It was decided that a parade of veterans should be held at the Drill Hall on May 24 (Empire Day). The Finance Committee reported a credit balance of £78 13s lOd in the Auckland Savings Rank, and that 196 members had paid to March 31, 1907. Major Thos. Broun was appointed chairman-of committee and parade officer for the Ensuing yea;'. Y.M.C.A. SIIAKESPERE CLUB. The opening meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Shakespearian Club was held in the club room last night. The following were elected officers for the year:—President, Mr. J. W. Stewart: vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Augliton, A. E. Greenslade, W. (I. Edmunds, C. W. Taplin. and (I. O. Metcalfe. Mr. C. Wool lams was elected hon. secretary and treasurer. The club w ill hold its meetings on alternate Wednesdays, and propose taking "The Merchant of Venice '' as their first.study. AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION COMMITTIiI-:. A meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union Committee was held last evening' in the rooms of the Amateur Sports Club. Mr. M. .1. SheaTian presided, and there was a good attendance of delegates. Mr. I). Gallaher was re-elected sole selector for the representative team, and Mr. H. C. Jones was again appointed sole selector of the junior representatives. It was decided to offer the Or eat Public Schools' Association of New South Wales oO per cent, of the gross takings if a match is played in Auckland against a combined secondary schools team.
