Among the passengers from Sydney, arriving at Wellington by the Maheno yesterday, were Colonel Robin, first military member of the Council of Defence, Lieutenant Atkinson, of H.M.s. Powerful, Mr. H. Price, of the Thames firm of Price Bros., and Messrs. W. Duthie and J. Turnbull, of Wellington.

Mr. W. Johnston, who has relinquished the position of secretary to the Auckland Sawmillers' Association, aftei having carried out the duties for the past three and a-half years, was the receipient, yesterday afternoon, of a purse of sovereigns from the members, as a mark of their esteem and appreciation of his work. Mr. T. H. White, president of the association, made the presentation at the Kauri Timber Company's office, in the presence of a large number "of members. _ He referred to Mr. Johnston's excellent work in the interests of the association, to his zeal and courtesy, and on behalf of the association wished him every success in his future undertakings. Mr. Johnston, who intends to start business on his own account in Melbourne, thanked the members of the association for their gift, and for their good wishes.
