ALLEGED TOBACCO THEFTS.

Di nknix, Wednesday. At the Police Court this morning, before Mr. C. C. Graham, S.M., George Stanley Sharp was charged that between August 1 and October 29, 1906, he did break and enter the premises of James Rattray and .Son, and steal therefrom 113 boxes of cigarettes and two boxes of tobacco valued at £90 12s Bil. Chief-Detective Herbert asked permission to add to the information 601b of tin Havelock tobacco, valued at £20 ss. Accused, li" said, had, through his solicitor, intimated that at the proper time he was prepared to admit having received the tobacco, but denied having committed the major offence of breaking and entering. A voluntary statement hud been made to Detective Hunt, by accused, giving his own account of how lie came into possession of the property. Accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial.
