THE SONOMA. The Oceanic Company's steamer Sonoma. Captain «T. H. Traak, arrived from Sydney at 11 a.m. yesterday, and, being granted pratique, berthed at the Queen-street Wharf. Mi. B. B. Bendall, the purser, report! that the steamer left Sydney at. 2.30 p.m. and cleared the heads at 3.3 p.m. on Friday last; passed the North Cape at 5.10 p.in on Tuesday, and arrived as above. Experienced flno weather on the voyage. The Sonoma is timed to leave for Pago Pago, Honolulu, and San "Francisco at 3 p.m. day. NEW STEAMER FOR THE WESTPORT COAL , ~. ..;COMPANY. On February 16 there was launched from the Wallsend yard of Swan, Hunter and Wighani Richardson. Limited, a steel screw steamer, which has been built to the order of the West port Coal Company. The vcwcl has been designed for carrying coal from Westport to Wanganui, and to carry her cargo on an exceptionally light draught, of water. In order to negotiate the bar at the latter port. The vessel is of the following leading dimensions:—Length overall, 178 ft; beam extreme, 29ft lOin ; and depth, moulded, lift Bin. The machinery has been constructed at Colchester, and consist* of two sets of roinpound engines, driving twin screws, steam being supplied by two large single-ended boilers. 120ib pressure, which are expected to drive her at a speed of 11 knots on a loaded trial trip. This is the second vessel that lias been recently built by Messrs. Swan, Hunter, ind Wigham Richardson for the same owners. The vessel has been built under the supervision of Captain Ln'ob and Mr. Win. Cairns, the owners' superintendents. On leaving the ways she was named the Uegulus by Miss Deans, of Whitley Bay.
