TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.

The ordinary mooting of tho Auckland Trades' and Labour Council was bold last evening, and there was a good attendance. Mr. Slater's Appointment: A letter was read from Mr. H. Canfiekl, secretary of tho Auckland Ironmoulders' Union, stating that tho union's delegates had beer, instructed to ask at next meeting of the Council on what authority Mr. Arthur Rossor had made a statement to the press to tho effect that Mr. Slater would again l*> elected as tho workers' representative on the Court. The union entered an emphatic protest against such a statement. Mr. D'Autlireau said that Mr. Rosier in stating what he did gave merely his own personal view, which ho had every right to express. He moved that a reply rx> sent to this effect. The president, Mr. W. H. Brookes, said he had a writter assurance from Mr. Rosser that this was so. He also pointed out that Mr. Ro&ser, in supporting Mr. Slater, was only doing- what the Council had already decided to do. Th« motion was carried. The Reecnt Conference: The report of the delegates to the recent Trades and Labour Conference at LHinedin was deferred for consideration until next meeting. The president, referring to the resolution passed at last meeting relating !o_ the appointment of Mr. Houston as the New Zealand delegate to the Trades Conference a' Melbourne, stated that Mr. Peak in what he said at the Trades and Labour Conference at Dune din was rnisreported.
