The history of the Omaha Block, which has just been sold, is interesting. Some 50 years ago it was purchased from the natives by Messrs. H. and C. Walton and Emsley, and lias since been known lis Walton's Grant. The property was ultimately bought by the Auckland Timber Company. When the Kauri Timber Syndicate was formed the block was valuedfat £500, and it subsequently became a portion of the Kauri Timber Company's estate. The company, some live or six'years ago, sold it to Messrs. G. Niccol, J. J. Craig, and Jas. Stewart, the two latter gentlemen subsequently selling their interests to Mr. Nic- :.' col. Under Mr. Xiccol's ownership, im- ; _ provements were carried out on a large scale, many thousands of pounds being expended in bushl'elling, fencing, and grass- .-.-., ing. ■ The property, which contains about !*.'.• 10,000 acres, changed hands at £45,000, and it 's the intention of the present owners to considerably further improve the .estate and dispose of it in parcels to suits'' able settlers.
