MELTINGS.

AUCKLAND SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS.

The first meeting of the present season of the Society of Musicians took place last evening at Buchanan's Cafe, when there was a good attendance of members and friends. The president, Herr .lollan Wielaert, was in the chair, the other officers present being Mr. R. Leslie Hunt, vicepresident., Miss A. Law, L.R.A.AI., and Air. Poorc, councillors, and Mrs. Neave, lion, secretary. The president, expressed his appreciation of the honour conferred upon him by his election to the office, and his determination to advance the interests of the society to the fullest extent of his power. He urged upon members the need for supporting the society, and paid a tribute to the labours of past presidents. After the business light- refreshments were dispensed. Under the direction of the president, the following musical items were given during the evening:—Songs, "Lassie With the Lint-white Looks," and "Song of Green Fields," Mr. ,1. Carter; songs, "Sweet. Be Not Proud and "Spring Has Come," .Miss Freda Rosewarne: flute solo. " ({rando Allegro de Concert," Air. (I. K. Poorc; and violin solos, "Romance" and "Concerto" (de Beriot), Mr. Colin Muston, L.R.A.M.

AUCKLAND DENTAL ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Dental Association was held yesterday at the Y.AI.C.A. Rooms. There was a good attendance of country and city members. Interesting and instructive demonstrations of dental work and clinics were given by some of the members. The following officers were also elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mr. A. W. Chatliekl; vice-pre-sident, Mr. A. H. Eikin; secretary, Dr. J. Y. Warren; treasurer, Mr. A. E. liobbs; committee, Dr. 11. A. Chatfield and Messrs. C. F. Bennett. 11.I 1 . B. Morris, G. L. Taylor, and 11. P. R. Foster.

In the evening the annual dinner was held in the Federal Club Rooms, there being an excellent- attendance. The president of the Auckland Dental Association for the past, year occupied the chair. After an excellent dinner I lie president Air. ('alter) in the course of his address said that they had now gained a dental school and hospital at Dunedin. (Applause.) The dentists of New Zealand had subscribed £1000 towards that. They also had a fine school, and the degree ot U.D.S. would be issued by the school, ami the holders would be entitled to practise ill any part of the British dominions, while it was the second dental school in the colonies capable of issuing the degree, Victoria being first. (Hear, hear.) The work the association had in view to push forward was the establishment of a dental hospital in Auckland, where the teeth of the poor could be attended to free of cost, or practically free. Another urgent matter was the attending to the teeth of school children. Mr. C. F. Bennett proposed the toast of "The New Zealand Dental Association," and Dr. Cox (president) replied. The toasts of " The Medical Association " (proposed by Mr. W. H. Leaf ham and replied to by Dr. Gorc-Gillon) and "Kindred Dental Associations" (by Mr. A. H. El kin and responded to by Air. T. A. Hunter, Dunedin) were also honoured. A good musical programme was given during the evening, Messrs. H. C. Gleeson, W. Davics, G. L. Taylor, C. F. Bennett, and Dr. 11. Cox contributing. Mr. T. Midglcy was accompanist.
