LISKEARD CENTENARIAN
Aft 42 years in New Zealand, 15 of which have been spent in Whangarei, Mr. J. Marshall, accompanied by Miss Marshall, his eldest daughter, has left on a trip to the Old Country.
One of the chief objects of Mr. Marshall's trip (says the Northern Advocate) is to see hie aged mother, to whom, under the heading " A Liskeard Centenarian," the Illustrated Western News, of February 16, devotes the following interesting notice, introduced by an excellent photograph of Mrs. Marshall:—"At her residence, Ash Park Terrace, Liskeard, yesterday, Mrs. Aim Marshall celebrated her 103 rd birthday. Born at Cardinburg, oil February 12, 1804, when Nelson was off Toulon with his blockading fleet, she distinctly remembers the rejoicings that took place throughout the country after Waterloo shattered the power of Napoleon for ever. For the past 17 years, since her husband's death, -she has resided at Liskeard. cheered by the constant attendance of a devoted daughter, and she has several grandchildren, who frequently pay her a visit. All her life Mrs. Marshall has enjoyed good health, and, despite her advanced age, she is able to get downstairs on fine days, and her sight and hearing are still wonderfully good, while her conversation is always interesting, and she maintains her bright and cheerful disposition unimpaired."
