The pilot's monthly report to the Paten Harbour Board says, inter alia:—''The channel over the bar is about 150 ft wide, with about 13ft at high water spring tides and about Bft at l igli water neap tides. I sounded the bar on March 7, and got 13!1 on the bar, and lift from the end of the western wall to inside the eastern wall, then deeper; I had Bit on the tide gauge at the time. On the 19th we had a gale of south-east wind with heavy' fresh in the river, and a lot of timber came down. lam very pleased to say there was no damage done at the Heads, but it altered the channel about 30ft to the eastward. There have been 18 arrivals and departures since my last report; four went out on the lights.*-
