THE FLOGGING OF NATIVES.

SENTENCES TO BE ENFORCED

By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright.

London*, April 5. The Daily Mail reports that the Europeans resident at Nairobi, British East Africa, have forwarded to the Colonial Secretary a protest against the sentences of imprisonment passed on Captain Grogan and four other Europeans for having flogged three natives who had been charged with insulting white women and acquitted. Lord Elgin declined to interfere with the sentences, on the ground that the floggings were illegal assaults.

Captain Grog an and those who acted with him have been sentenced to periods of imprisonment ranging from seven days to a month. The affair happened a month ago.
