PROPOSED NEW BRIDGE AT HUNTLY.

A coxkkkknck of delegates appointed by the various local bodies interested in tho erection of tin? proposed new- bridge across tho Waikato at Huntly was held at Huntly on Thursday.

There was a representative attendance, Mr. J. P. Bailey presiding. He pointed out tho urgent necessity for a bridge, which would open up a vast area of virgin country and provide the medium by which settlers 011 Lho west bank of the river could got their stock and produce to railway. It would also advance the mining interests of the districts, vast, deposits of coal, ironstone, and limestore being unworked on account of the want of facilities which would enable those interested to place the minerals on the market. Mr. Bailey then read all the. correspondence that had passed between the. Minister for Public Work.-; and oth«./* in connection with the proposal. Mr. Leather suggested the erection of a combined railway' and traffic bridge, and intimated that the Taupiri West Coal Mining Company was prepared to pay—in fact to guarantee— per annum for railway purposes in connection with the mine. After Messrs. McKinnou, Hewitt, Patterson, Annandale, and Anderson had addressed the meeting the following proposal, proposed by Mr. Gordon and seconded by Mr. Patterson, was earned unanimously: 'That the Raglan County Council continue the correspondence and push the matter through, and abo inform the Government that the. local bodies concerned aie prepared to pay 10s to the £ up to £6000 of Government money, and, at the. name time, endeavour to induce the Government to build a combined railway and traffic bridge, which will not cost the local bodies any more than : the traffic bridge alone."
