Mr. Owen P. Davies (says a Dunedin Press Association telegram] has accepted the appointment of acting-director of the dental school in connection with Otago University.
The town clerk of Sydney (Mr. Nesbitt) is at present in Wellington, on his way l>ack to the Commonwealth, after spending three weeks in the South Island on a holiday.
Mr. C. J. Parr was yesterday re-elected by the Education Board a governor of the Auckland Grammar School. The Rev. L. L. Cubitt and Mr. W. A. Carruth were reappointed governors of Whangarei High School.
At Eilerslie on Wednesday Mr. .Archibald Wilson, of Taupiri, was married to Miss Hilda Laud, youngest daughter of Mr. Robert Laud, of "The Mount," Ellerslie. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a cream silk voile dress. The bridesmaid was Miss Wilson.
Mr. J. Vigor Brown, who was for many years a member of the Napier Borough Council, and who is at present chairman of the Napier Harbour Board, has (says a Press Association telegram) consented to allow himself to be nominated for the Mayoralty of that town.
A large gathering of members of the Auckland Tabernacle Church and congregation assembled in the schoolroom on Thursday evening to bid farewell to Dr. and Mrs. A. O. <Knight and family, who are shortly leaving on a prolonged tour of the Old Country. ~ The Rev. J. Clark presided. Brief addresses were given by the chairman, Mr. H. M. Smeeton, and Mr. S. H. Matthews, expressing dee)) regret at ♦ lie departure of Dr. Knight and his wife, and referring to the good work they had done for the church. Dr. Knight suitably replied. A pleasant half-hour was spent in social intercourse, and refreshments were dispensed.
Mr. Malcolm Macpherson, who has occupied the position of chief inspector of tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company for the past 12 years, has severed his connection with the company, and, with Mrs. Macpherson, leaves Wellington for England to-day. Mr. S. Clark Johnson, inspector of branches, will act as chief inspector until the vacancy caused by Mr. Macpherson's retirement has been filled. On Thursday afternoon presentations were made in the head office to Mr. Macpherson. An illuminated album, signed by the members of the official staff from Auckland to the Bluff, was handed to him by Mr. Clark Johnson, and from Mr. E. G. Staveley, manager at Christchurch, on behalf of the branch managers, he received a gold card-case, suitably inscribed, 'for himself, and a silver clock for Mrs. Macpherson.
