THE POLO TOURNAMENT.

REMUERA WINS THE CUP.

The final game for tho Auckland Polo Association Cup was played on the. Remuera Polo Ground yesterday afternoon. Tho climatic conditions were perfect, and the brilliant sunshine induced a largo number of spectators to attend. Lady Lockhart presided over the afternoon tea. The contesting teams were Cambridge and Remuera, and they gave a capital exposition of the game. Remuera's representatives were W. Dalton, H. C. Tonks, C. Crowther, and T. H. Cotter. The Cambridge team comprised C. Potts, R. Hannon, N. Banks, and H. Crowther. From start to finish play was very fast. In the first spell Remuera scored one goal after a lot of hard play. Cambridge equalised in the second spell, and on several occasions the home team wore hard put to it to defend their'goal. In tho third spell Remuera added to their score, making the game three goals to one. In the fourth spell Remuera added to their score, which was increased to five in the fifth. Towards tho close of the fifth spell Banks (Cambridge) scored a magnificent goal from an obtuse angle. Tho final spell saw no alteration, in the scores, and tho game finished up: Remuera, five; Cambridge, two. Tho goal scorers were for the winners Cotter (2). C. Crowther, Dalton, and Tonks, and for the losers Hannon and Banks. At the conclusion of the game Sir Robert Lockhart briefly congratulated the winners. They had played a magnificent game against their redoubtable opponents. The secret of polo success was "ride hard and keep the ball rolling." The cup was then handed to the captain of the Kem:iera beam (Mr. H. C. Tonks) by Lady Lockhart. Mr. Tonks in a brief speech returned thanks. A SMOKE CONCERT. . In the evening a smoke concert was held in the Federal Mull rooms, the visitors being the guests of the local club. There was a fair attendance, and an enjoyable evening was spent. Sir Robert Lockhart occupied the chair. The chairman, in welcoming the visitors and congratulating the winners of the cup, said he was glad to see so many young men coining on in polo. It was a most hopeful and encouraging sign. He regarded polo as one of the finest games. He congratulated the country players on the game they had played. It was from the country that they must get their teams. In cities it might be thought they ought to have the men and horses, but the country was the place to get the teams, as there were so many young men in the country who had horses in daily work. In the cities, on the other hand, it meant a considerable expense to keep the horses going. He was glad to see that Paeroa had made a good start with polo. During the evening several toasts were honoured, including "The King," "The Visitors" (proposed by Mr. Wynyard and responded to by Colonel Shepherd and Messrs. N. Banks, C. Atcheson, and C. Meredith), "The Cambridge Team" (proposed by Mr. Wynyard and responded to by Mr. N. Banks), " The Winners of the Handicap" (Clevedon) (proposed by Mr. Meredith and responded to by Mr. Atcheson), The Thames Valley Club" (proposed by Sir Robert Lockhart), and "The Winners."

It was decided that the next tournament should be held at Cambridge, the date to be left open. Officers for the tournament were elected as follows: President, Mr. James Taylor; vice-presidents, Dr. Roberts and Mr. F. Ross; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. Morvyn Wells. The Remuera Polo Club races will l>e held at Alexandra Park to-day, commencing at half-past twelve o'clock.
