COURT STATISTICS.

DuNKDIN, Thursday. The quarterly returns of the Dunedin Magistrate's Court show that on the civil side the amount sued for during the past three months was £9652, of which £4560 was recovered. In the criminal court there were 472 males and 57 females taken into custody. Of these 50 males and six females were discharged. There were 12 males and three females committed for trial, and 375 males and 43 females were summarily convicted.

Invercargill, Thursday

The quarterly returns for the Invercargill Police and Magistrate's Court show that during that period 171 people were. charged, as against 127 for the same period last year, and 146 were summarily coavicted, as against 96 last year. The figures show an increase in what may be called minor crimes, the cases of drunkenness being 22 as against 19 List year, and the number of prohibition orders issued 19, as against 14 last year. In civil business there were 268 plaints entered, and 121 cases heard, the aggregate amount sued for being £2544 6s Id, and the amount recovered £1571 13s Bd. Ast year's figures under the .same head, were, 376 cases wd 194 hearings, with £3348 10s sued for and £1994 4s recovered. There were 18 judgment summonses, as against 53 last year, and 11 orders made thereon, as against 15. During the nine months of no-license, ended March 31, 78 persons were, convicted of drunkenness. With one exception all the cases were traceable to places other than Invercargill. During the same period fines amounting to £250 have been imposed for sly grog-selling.
