AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

A MEETING of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon, when tliero wove present The Hon. IS. Mitchclson (chairman) Messrs. W. E. Hutchison, A. J. Entrioan,'J. B. Macfarlano, C. C. Dacro, A. Koyes, 11. .1. Bradney, G. W. Basloy, and 11. D. Heather.

Calliope Dock: The Board's London agents, W. and A. McArthur, Ltd., wrote regretting to hoar of the accident at Calliope Dock through the keel blacks having given way, and they forwarded a drawing showing arrangement of keel blocks for dry docks, which should b*> of value to the Board. The letter was received. Whakatane Harbour: The Wbakatano County Council, in acknowledging receipt of the Hoard's letter regretting; tho inability to spare the Board engineer, Mr. Hanier, to rcjjort on harbour matters to the Council in the meantime thanked the Board for the attention given the matter, and stated that I the Council was making arrangements to J secure the services of Mr. H. Metcalfe, C.E. i Office for Tally Clerks: W. (i. DunningI ham wrote on behalf of tally clerks engaged • at Queen-street Wharf offering to lease an | office on the wharf at 10s per month. St. Iloliors Bay Wharf: Tho Tamaki West Road Board wrote drawing attention to the state of St. Holier* Bay Wharf, and asking tho Harbour Board to strengthen tho structure, as some of the piles were ting shaky, and some of the old piles from tho Railway Wharf might no of use in this connection. On the motion of the chairman it was agreed ,to reply that the required repairs wore now being effected. Ponsonby Esplanade: The City Council wrote referring to previous correspondence on tho subject of formation of an esplanade along tin- foreshore, Ponsonby, and especially to that portion between Beaumont* street and New-street, in order to take the place, as an outlet for I'onsonby residents, of the footpath from Waitemata-street to Beaumont-street, which would shortly be done away with. The Council stated that its engineer reported that tho chairman of the Gas Company believed the company would he prepared to relinquish riparian rights along sea frontage if other Owner* between the company's property and Newstreet would do the same. The town clerk had also been verbal!j informed that tins property owners were willing to relinquish riparian rights in consideration of frontage to the proposed esplanade. Tho Council had decided that if the property owners expressed in writing willingness to exchange riparian rights the Board bo requested to arrange for the construction of esplanade from, Beaumont-street to New-street, tho Council to form an approach from New-street to such esplanade. Copies of letters wore enclosed from P. F. Colledge and 11. H. Hayr. The former agreed to forego riparian rights in consideration of portion of tho reclaimed land along his boundary being granted to him and having a depth of 100 ft from the present high-water mark outwards to the frontage of the new road, together with 6ft fence on tho portion of the section abutting on New-street. The latter agreed, provided that the freehold of reclaimed land between his high-water boundary and the esplanade were veiled in him and other matters wore arranged to his satisfaction. The correspondence was referred to tho Board in committee.

, Water .Supply to Shipping: The Devonport Borough Council forwarded its resolui tion informing the Board that the Council was not prepared to accept a lesser minimum for water supply to snipping than £200 per annum, and that the Council reserved i the right to cancel Ibis arrangement in tho | event of the borough undertaking a municipal ferry service. The letter was referred to the Board in committee. Mr. R. Logan, pin., wrote saving it was frequently stated at the Dovonport Council that his statement as to the price of water and his reference to | a minimum price was not mentioned at the Board's first meeting owing to it not being inserted in the first resolution which wan I passed by the Board on March 20, 1906. Tho i Board would remember he supporter 1 the 1 resolution after asking if the Board bad power to take over the water supply, and the chairman replied in the affirmative. He (Mr. Logan) also mentioned that he thought Devonport should get the same price- as tho city (?» 3d), and the chairman of the Board said that was only right. He (Mr. Logan then asked for i, minimum to cover what the Ferry Company took, roughly £100 per annum. The chairman then said, "Wait .id we got a reply to the resolution," and authorised him (Mr: Logan/ to say that tie* Board would make up any less incurred through the Board taking over the watoi. He (Mr. Logan) then mentioned that he would move at the Council meeting, if the offer was accepted, that there should be • I minimum of £100.
