New York. March 12. The New York Sun announces that the United States Government- has received formal notification from the directors of the Oceanic Steamship Company of the projected withdrawal of their steamers from the San Francisco-Australia mail service. It was reported last week that a private cablegram had been received in Sydney, intimating the withdrawal of the company from the service. flic withdrawal is a direct result of the defeat of the Shipping Subsidy Hill, which, if it had passed as introduced to Congress, would have given the company such an increase of income as to justify the building of two more steamers. When the Sierra was in Auckland the other day, there was a rumour on board that with the departure of the Sonoma from Auckland next, month, the service would come to an end. and that the steamers would ho "tied up" in San Francisco.
