EDISON'S PICTURE'S.
The display of moving pictures now being shown at His Majesty's Theatre provide* a most iuterestinj, evening's amusement, ': and last night a good audience- witnessed a number of new films, which the management was prevented from showing the preri--oua evening, owing to not being able to get them through the Customs in time. Un« f " doubtodly the finest of these was one•■•&•■■'•. titled "The Dog Detectivo," a most realises " panorama representing the dynamiting erf a safe by two burglars, thoir foiling of » keeper who appeared on the scene, and preparations for blowing up the unfortunate man with dynamite, when a black retriever appeared, stamped out the burning fuse, brought help, and then set, off in chase after the burglars, towing back across a stream a boat used by them in their escape, and '.. : finally loading the detectives to the capture. ' Another good new film was one entitled < " Raffiles, the Dog," and there were two very fine sets of football and baseball in - America. A beautiful picture was one of the largest ships in the world, the Baltic, leaving New York for London. Some splendid humorous seta were thrown on, the screen, and little Bessie Sutton, the child artiste,. contributed several good song and dance numbers, for which she was warmly applauded. The pictures *i!l be displayed again this evening. OPERA HOUSE. Fuller's Vaudeville Company are present. ing a very strong prograrnmo this week. Miss Lorraine Tan sky sings very well "Fiddle and I," and as an encore Denaaa "My Dearest Heart." The Misses May Wallace, Ruby Maxwell, and Lucy Robert? sing and dance very gracefully. Mr. Sain. Wilson tells a number of humorous (itcries in fine Style, arid Mr. Harry Linden sings a comic song entitled " A Ten-Pound Note. Mr Valentine Vouaden is inimitable in his imitation of "Mrs. O'Rcurke." Mira Pearl Livingstone is a clever sono, and sings " Keep On the Sunny Side-." * The Melbourn© Meistersingers, in their mimical ; sketch, "The Waiter to the Rescue,':, contribute a number of harmonised s songs. Misses Armstrong and Verne, and Mr. E. W. Gollmick also appear. Some splendid living pictures are shown by the Warwick Bioscope. ■ _ ' ' BESSES 0' TH' BARN BAND. Perhaps no attraction has been looked forward to in Auckland with such eagerness as the season oT the celebrated Besses o' th Barn Band. Messrs. J. and N. Tail, the directors of the tour, announce to-day that the. season will commence at His Majesty « Theatre on March 25, and will continue until the 50th. The box plans are to bo opened at Wildrnan and Axey'a on Monday, the 18th. and, judging by the altogether unprecedented success of the toui in other parts of the colony, it is anticipated that the booking will bo very heavy. The Bosses have up to the present, quite apart from the Exhibition engagement, given in the space of five weeks 50 concerts, and it is estimated that within that period 125,000 people have paid admission to hear them. Throughout the colony the universal opinion Is that th.» / playing of the great band is a revelation in every respect. Mr. G. D. Porteus, touring manager for Messrs. J. and N. Tait, is expected to reach Auckland from the South on Thursday to complete arrangements for the season here, GRAND NATION AT CONCERT. The annual grand national concert in connection with St. Patrick's Day celebrations will bo held next Friday evening in [ the Loyal Albert Hall. A splendid programme has been arranged and appears in this issue. Madame Cecilia Staunton will sing the "Minstrel Boy" and "Kathleen Mavourneen." The Meisiter Quartette will sing " The Dear Little Shamrock" and "Oft in the Stilly Night" (specially arranged). \ Mr. H. A. Lamb, of St. "Benedict's, will be Madame Staunton's accCmpanist.; There will be fully 160 children in the virions '" choruses, and a fine orchestra will W&t* J the choruses. - -
