THAMES SCHOOL OF MINES.

Thames, Tuesday. A special meeting of the council of the Thames School of Mines was held to-day, for the purpose of appointing a new director for the school in place of Mi-. Adams, who has resigned. Twelve applications were received, and the selection was decided by ballot, which resulted in the appointment of Mr. William Baker, eldest son of Mr. Wm. Baker, manager of the New May Queen mine. Mr. Baker was formerly a very successful student of the Thames School of Mines, and since then has filled several high positions in Australia. He is, at present in charge of the technical mining department in one of the West Australian schools.
