FIRING COMPETITIONS AT THE THAMES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The first quarterly cadet prize-firing competition for the handsome new battalion belt, subscribed for by the Thames citizens, took place to-day at the new riflo range at Collarbone Crock, with the result that Bugler Spark, of Tararu, proved the winner. The conditions were 10 shots each at 200 yds. The following are the principal scores—Bugler Spark (Tararu), 31; Private Ludwig (Tararu), 30; Sergeant Challis (Tararu), 27; Sergeant Climo (Kauaeranga), 26; Private Andrew (Tararu), 24; Private Downes (Waiokaraka), 21. The competition for Mr. Rogers' cup by the members of the "A" Company, Thames Rifles, also took place yesterday afternoon, Volunteer Brown proving the winner with the capital score of 91 out of 21 shots. The following are the principal scores:—Brown, 91; J. Bond, 88; Deluniore, 87; G. Morrison, 83; Newman, 82; M. Morrison, 82: R. Senior. 81; J. Senior, 78: Phillips, 76; McLean, 73.
