For many years past lie growing district, of Richmond lias felt. the Heed of a public school, mid from time to time efforts have l>een made by the residents to secure one, but. without effect. The district, however, has grown so rapidly of late that the question of a school could no longer be deferred. A canvass of the district resulted in a largely-signed petition, and a. meeting of the residents Was held. It- was decided to forward the petition to the Board of Mutation, urging them to erect a school in the district. 'I he attention of the Minister for Fxlucation is also being called to the fact that quite a numbet of children are at school age, and cannnot he admitted to the &d joining schools on account of their already overcrowded state. At a .second meeting a reply wad received from Mr. Rice, secretary of the Board of Education, stating that the Board as a temporary measure intended to establish a side school in the Richmond Hall. Although this is not all the residents would have desired, it ie stated that it will meet lie case lor the time being, and will help to relieve the congestion at the Richmond Road and New ton West schools.
