London, February 22. The late Mr. Samuel Smith, formerly a member of the House of Commons, has left £100.000 to re* ligious objects and charities.

Mr. Smith was a merchant of Liverpool anil was president of tin l Liverpool Chamber of Commerce in 1875. He represented Liverpool in the House of Commons from 1882 to 1885, and Flintshire from 1886 to 1906. He erected the Gordon Institute for Seamen at Liverpool in memory oi his only Mill.
