THE WRECK OF THE BERLIN.

FIFTEEN PERSONS SAVED.

NINE SVIEN, SIX WOMEN.

LIFEBOATMEN'S HEROISM.

SURVIVORS' TERRIBLE.

SUFFERINGS.

By Telegraph. Press Association.— Copyright

London, February '22. A plank that was washed ashore yesterday evening bore an intimation that fifteen persons were still alive on the Berlin, but only four were seen this morning. f During the day lifeboats made further fruitless efforts to reach the wreck in the face of a, hurricane and a snowstorm, the cold being intense.

The Great Eastern Company's steamer Claeton arrived at the spot an hour and a half after the Berlin struck and stood by for many hours vainly endeavouring to render succour. She herself in the meantime was in great peril. People were seen huddled on the decks and thesea was sweeping them off in batches.

A tug established communication with the Berlin to-day by means of hawsers and crowds ashore are watching with telescopes the efforts at rescue.
