NAVAL COMMANDS.

LORD CHARLES BERESFORD AND CHANNEL FLEET.

Br Telegraph',—Press Association.— London, February 14. It is reported that Lord Charles Beresford has declined the command of the Channel fleet under the new limited conditions. The officials at the Admiralty say that before going to America on private business recently Lord Beresford accepted the command.

Lord Charles Beresford has been in command of the Mediterranean fleet, since 1905, and it was notified last .vear that he was to receive command of the Channel fleet, in succession to Admiral Wilson. Recently it was announced that 80 vessels of the Channel, Atlantic, and Mediterranean fleets arts to manoeuvre off Lagos in April under Admiral Wilson as commander in-chief. Admiral Wilson is senior to Lord Beresford.
