POLICE COURT NEWS.
ALLEGED THEFT OF MONEY. At the Police Court on Saturday, before Mr. C. C. Kettle,.S.M., a young man named Ernest Hutchison was charged with stealing 15s Bd, the property of Shaddock and Co. Chief-Detective Marsack applied for a remand until to-morrow, which wan granted. Accused asked for bail, which was allowed in one surety of £10. CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Richard Stemson, charged with attempting to commit, suicide at Houhora by cutting his throat, was further remanded for a. week; Sergeant. Hendry, who secured the remand, stated that Stemson's wounds had not quite healed yet. DRUNKENNESS. Joseph Brcnnen pleaded guiltv to drunkenness (a second offence within six months), and to obtaining liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. in reply to Mr. Kettle defendant said that ho " found" the liquor in the Domain. Mr. Kettle: What right have von to go and take other people's liquor. Defendant: Because what is the use of it lying there? (Laughter.) Sergeant Hendry said that the Costloy Home authorities were prepared to give Brennen another chance, and readmit him into 'the home. Defendant was convicted and discharged, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Frederick Orren and,. Tames Cromwell, charged with drunkenness, were both remanded for a week for medical observation,
