Sampled Bft and 4ft; value of former, £5 per ton, and of 4ft 13s per ton. No walls." The telegram refers to No. 3 winze. As a result of the message, there was a sharp rise and brisk business on the Stock Exchange. The .sales started at 6s lid, and advanced to 7s 6d, and then eased a little, business being done at 7s 4d. The closing price offered by buyers was 7s 3d. NEW SAXON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. Work in the New Saxon mine during the past week has been confined to carrying along an underhand stope on the Cardigan No. 1 lode at No. 4 level, eastward from the No. 1 winze. As encouraging prospects were met with (gold being seen freely through the quartz broken, and a little picked stone selected), ; t has been decided to repair the -winze, and stope out the block of ground eastward front the bottom of tin* winze to the floor of the level. Operations in the crosscut northward into the hangingwall ->( the Cardigan lode have been suspended for the present, nothing of any importance having beeu met with. BONANZA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN - CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday.
In the Bonanza mi good progress is being made with the driving of the main level to intersect the reef prospected on the surface, which, from its position and course, is supposed to be Dixon's reef. The country being met with in the drive is of a good description, and a total distance of 80ft has been driven, leaving a further 140 ft yet to drive to intersect the reef. NEW MAY QUEEN.' . [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The timbering up of the new chamber cut out at No. 6 level of the New May Queen mine was completed during the week, and the work of sinking the winze below the level on the No. 4 lode is now in progress, 4ft having been sunk during the latter portion of the week. None of the lode has yet been broken down, but the 4ft now stripped will probably be broken down early next week. In the stopes above No. 6 level work is proceeding as usual, the quartz coming to hand being still of good payable quality. A little picked stone is sek-cted from time to time. The crosscut at No. 5 level to intersect the St. Hippo reef is still iu progress, land a total distance of 55311 ha.s beem driven since this work was commenced. The country in Die face is still of a hard nature, preventing good progress being made, but the manager expects to meet with a favourable change shortly. Crushing at the battery is proceeding steadily. MOANATAIARI. fllY TELEGRAPH. —OWN rORRKSPON'DENT.] Thames, Saturday.. The main work in progress at present in the Moanataiari mine is the carrying along of an underhand stope on the Cambria reef at the Cambria No. 4 level. The reef at. this point is a good 1 strong body of quartz, with a baud of mineralised stoue about lit in thickness running along the haugingwall side. This looks very promising, and shows a little gold. The country is also of a good description for gold, and there is a fair probability of the- reef improving as the work proceed*. ALBURN! A. [BY TELKCR.U'U.— OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. Nothing of importance' has yet been met with in the main tunnel of the Alburnia mine, which is now getting well in under the,.
