Sydney, January 28. Another seaman, named Chtistie, has been arrested in connection with stealing of gold from the s.s. Navua.

THE PLAGUE

Svdnkv, January 28.

Another cast-' of plague in Sydney and another .death arc reported. There are two areas of infection, one in the heart of the city and another in the Haymarket.

The plague is spreading rapidly among the employees of two firms? in a block of buildings fronting King and George Streets, and in the post office block. Four more cases were reported to-day, the patient* being three girls and a man. The authorities are making strenuous efforts to cope with the outbreak.

Good rains have fallen in New South Wales. Over an inch has fallen in Sydney, and nearly 3in at Broken Hill. There lias been a heavy fall in Central Australia, ranging up to There is a heavy sea along the coast.

ARNST AS A SCULLER. Sydney, January 28. Arnst, the New Zealand cyclist, who has turned sculler, rowed second on Saturday to S. Pearce, who conceded him 10 seconds in the allcomers' sculls. Pearce won by a length. Arnst rows a powerful stroke, but, in the opinion of the critics, he has much to learn.
