February 25th, the Lay Classes which proved so successful during the past year, will Re-open at the College. Rut.andstreet These Classes have been inaugurated in order to provide a thoroughly sound practical education tor boys and girls who have passed through the Primary Schools, and who intend to become Accountants, Artiste, Hook-keepers, Bootmakers, Builders. Cabinetmakers, Carpenters. Chemists, Clerks. Decorators, Electrical. Mechanical, or Civil Engineers, Engravers, Painters, Plasterers, Plumbers, Process Workers. Surveyors, Tailors, etc. The Teaching is on the most modern lines; the importance of "THE KNOW WHY" as well as "THE KNOW HOW" is insisted U! A "'SPECIAL COMMERCIAL COURSE has been arranged for students (male or female) over 16 years of age, to qualify them for positions as Typists. Shorthand Writers, Book-keepers, Secretaries, etc. This course is quite FREE, under conditions given below. The Typewriting Department of the College is the most up-to-date in Australasia, and embraces FORTY' Visible-writing Typewriters. Classes are FREE to any boy or girl over thirteen years of age, who has obtained: — Either (1) a Standard VI. CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY at a Public School; or (2) has qualified for a FREE place in the Examination for JUNIOR NATIONAL Scholarships; or (3) has qualified in any special examination lor Junior Free Places held by the Education Department: or (4) has qualified for an EDUCATION BOARD Scholarship; or (5) is the holder of on EDUCATION BOARD Scholarship or a NATIONAL Scholarship, or a QUEEN'S Scholarship, or any other Scholarship that the Minister may approve for the purpose: Provided that the value of any such Scholarship is not greater than £<W per annum in the case of any pupil who is obliged to live away from home in order to attend the Technical College, or than £10 per annum in any other case. As the number of students that can bo accommodated is limited, those who wish to join these Classes should apply at once. The First Term of 1907 commences on MONDAY', February 4, prox. A limited number of Free Places are available. The Course of Study leads from the 6th Standard of the Primary Schools to the Junior University Scholarship, and comprises (a) a Classical side, in which languages and science will be important feature.-.; and (h) a Commercial side, from which Latin will be omitted, and in which practical mathematics, book-keeping, etc., will be taught. Section 17 of the Regulations provides: "The programme of each Pupil under these regulations shall be determined by the Principal of the School after consultation with the parent or guardian of the pupil; provided that no such pupil shall he compelled to take Latin or to take more than one language besides English."
