THREE HOURS AMONG SHARKS.
An extraordinary story of a lascar's terrible experience was told by Captain J. F. Ruthven, of the Orontes, of the Orient and Royal Mail Lino, which arrived at Plymouth on December 14 from Australia.
After leaving Colombo a human voice was heard shouting ahead of the Orontes. The engines were stopped and a lifeboat was lowered in the darkness. It soon returned with an almost unconscious lascar, who had been picked up in a shark-infested sea.
The next morning the lascar stated that he had Ix'en employed on the Clan liner Clan Chisholm, and had fallen overboard. Ho failed to attract the attention of his ship, and had been three hours in the water when, the Orient steamer arrived. .
