THE TARANAKJ BORES

New Plymouth, Friday. Mr. I). Berry, chairman of the directors of the 'Faranaki Petroleum Company, states that. 940 ft of (he 6in casing; H.bove where the brea.k occurred in the No. 2 bore, was recovered on Thursday morning, and before six p.m. the balance of 760 ft, below the break, Mas also recovered, brought to the surface stud unscrewed. 'I lie break was caused by a length of easing breaking oil' at the thread joining one length to another. The work of recusing lias been commenced, and great car-' will l>e taken in the testing. It is hoped to recommence boring at this, well on Monday next, and with fair luck it should not bo long lx v fore payable oil is reached. There is a large quantity of gas and a considerable amount of oil even at the present depth of 1740 ft. all the lower pipes having come up smothered with oil. The foundations have been completed, and the erection of the derrick is proceeding at- the Oil and Freehold Company's first bore at Vogeltown. Prospecting for oil is proceeding in the Kaita.ke ranges.
