I RECIPROCITY WITH AMATKUK I BODY.

[by TKI.KGItAI'U. —phkss ASSOCIATION.]

(...'iikisien, Friday. The conference of delegates of the Now Zealand Athletic Union whs continued today. Mr. ('<■ W. Woods (president) occupied the chair.

The following officers were elected: — Presiden|, Mr. U. W. Woods (Invcrcargill): vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Duncan (Wellington) and .lames Clarkson (New Plymouth); auditor, Mr. J. Kennedy (Ceraldine) ; committee, Messrs. R. Smith (Palliatua) and L>. Corcoran (Duncdin) : secretary, Mr. T. J'. (filfeudor (liivcrcargill).

Messrs. W. C Atack, .U. T. Aschnian. ami J. E. Green, representing the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, waited on the conference to discuss the. proposals for reciprocity between the association and the union. Mr. Wood:-, in welcoming the representatives, .-Hid that the union delegates were ready f> co-operate with another governing body of sirort. Mr. Alack stated that an agreement between the two bodies had been suggested after the manner of that existing between the Athletic Association and the League of Wheelmen, It was hoped that the union and association would be able to assist each other in the government of athletic sport. The Otago centre of the association was the only one that had objected to the proposed agreement, and their objection was evidently duo to a misconception. The follluvving were the terms of the proposed agreement:—(l) Each organisation recognises the other as the governing body of the branch of sport that each is constituted to govern; 12) each organisation undertakes to recognise, eniorce, and maintain the suspensions of disqualifications of the other; (3) before reinstating any person as an amateur the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association shall re for the application for reinstatement to tin;. jXciv Zealand Athletic Union for < ;i----dor.-rment or otherwise; (4,1 it is agreed l.v the New Zealand Athletic Union to refuse, the entry of any amateur into any cash competition unless I he. amateur has abstained entirely from all competitions held under the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association's law- for a period of at least 12 months; i 5) ii is agreed by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association that any body affiliated to the New Zealand Athletic "Union may obtain a permit to piace amateur events upon its sports programme without payment, of any fee _ Mr. Atack said that the mutual recognition of susi-eiisions and disqualifications would strengthen both bodies. The proposed agreement was accepted, with the. elimination of cause 4. It was also resolved that provision should be made that the only amateur officials in connection with amateur events or ca.-h programmes should be a handicapper and a local consul, and trie, clubs affiliated to the associations should bo made to understand clearly that they should place cash events on their prourammes, if events for their members were placed on cash programmes. It was decided to request the New Zealand Axemen's Association to organise as o colonial body, as otherwise the union would be forced in the interests of several of its affiliated societies to control sawing and chopping events throughout the colony. The conference passed a resolution expressing regret that disqualified competitors should have been allowed to compete at recent sports in the Wanganui district, and it was decided to ass the Wanganui centre for full particulars of the matter.
