A Press Association telegram from Dunedin yesterday states that Mr. Brown, chief clerk of the Public Trust Office at Dunedin, has been promoted to the charge of the Napier Public Trust. Office, where he will also act as Deputy Official Assignee. Mr. Young, the cashier at Dunedin, becomes chief clerk in the place of Mr. Brown.
A Press Association telegram from Invercargill last night stated that during the evening Lieutenant-Colonel Hawkins, lately appointed to the command of the Canterbury volunteer district, was entertained by members and ex-members of the Southland Mounted Rifles, of which he was the first commander The guest was presented with a pair of field-classes and > dressing-case. Warm references were made to Colonel Hawkins' ability, and to the services rendered by him to*volunteering iu Southland.
Mr. E. K. Willotighbv, district manager of'the Provident Life Assurance Company, was presented with a handsome pur of silver vases, suitable inscribed, by the members of the local "staff of the company yesterday morning on the occasion of his approaching departure to take up more responsible duties in Dunedin. Mr. George Wilson made the presentation on behalf of the staff, and in the course of a few remarks referred feelingly to the loss about to be sustained bv the local office by the departure of Mr. Willonghby, who bad proved himself a capable officer. Mr. Willoughhv. who made a suitable reply, leaves for'the South on Monday by the Takapuna.
\ vorv pleasing ceremonv took place at the Imperial Hotel last night, when a number of friends of Mr. Harry Davy, who is leaving Auckland to take charge of the New Plymouth branch of Messrs. Macky. Logan Steeu, and Co., assembled to bid liim farewell. Mr. W. J. Ralph presided, and said that they had all known Mr. Daw ■ for manv years, and nad always found him a kind' and considerate friend Throughout the provnee Mr. Davy was well known, and he was deputed to express regret that several Waikato friends were unable to be present. Mr. Davy's friends, after consultation, had decided that the presentation should take, the- form of a purse of sovereigns. In handing over the puree he did so with great pleasure, aud on behalf of the donors wished him and Mrs. Davy everv happiness and prosperity in years to come Mr E. Abbott also made a few remarks, as did also Mi. C. H. MeKinnev. Mr Daw made a suitable reply, and the healths of Mr. and Mrs. Davy were duly honoured.
