As the outcome of the accident .it the corner of Bowen-street and Lanibtou Quay, oil December 17. in which Mrs. Amy Kensington, wife of Hie Under-Secretary for Lands, was killed and her daughter severely injured, » charge of manslaughter was brought against Win. Stephen <>'!',i » and Palmer Otto Spry, in the S.M. Court today. Spry was driving the motor fireengine at the time of the accident, and Deputy-Superintendent O'Brien was in

charge of the brigade. The motor was driven along Lambtoii Quay about half- four in the afternoon, on the way to a tire. Just before the motor turned into wen -street. Mrs. Kensington and her two daughters walked onto the crossing. The car turned the corner and collided with the two ladies. The Coroner's jury returned a verdict that the death of Mrs. Kensington was accidental, and thai no blame was attachable to the driver of the motor.

In opening the case to-day, counsel explained the two counts in the charge. The first was one of manslaughter, the I second was that or' recklessly driving a | motor car, thereby causing the death of I Amy Kensington. He referred the Court | to section nine of the Motor Regulation Act, providing for the limitation of the speed of motors, li the charge could not by sustained under that section there was a section in the criminal code under which it might be brought. Alexander Robert Kennedy repeated the evidence given at, the former inquiry. He admitted, under cross-examination, thai the movements of the ladies after they firct hesitated in front of the car might nave escaped his notice. He had noticed that motorists were frequently very careless in passing over such crossings. At this point the case was adjourned till Monday.
