FISCAL PREFERENCE.

A GERMAN ALLEGATION".

By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright,

(Received January 24, 9.14 •p.m.)

Berlin, January 24. The German Cablegram Company's Melbourne correspondent; reports that an agreement lias been arrived at by Australia, Canada, and Capo Colony for joint action in giving) fiscal preference to Great Britain.

The Tageblatt, commenting on this report, says that each of the colonics mentioned has gone as far in obstructing the importation of German goods as it can without seriously damaging its own economic life ; but possibly one result of (lie coalition is that it will be impossible hereafter to secure from the separate colonies an alleviation in the importing conditions for German goods.

The Melbourne correspondent of the German Cablegram Company, of course, is wrong in his information. There has been no agreement made lor joint action by the three colonies. Preference is given by the South African colonies and Canada, but' the Australian Bill lias been reserved for the King's assent, and is not likely to get> it, on account of the "white"' clause.
