A suggestion was al-o made to invite Mr. V . F. .\tassey to he present. The committee was empowered to arrange for .speakers, and to draft resolutions to be placed before the meeting.

The annual meeting of the Fountain of Friendship, .M i'.. 1.0.0.F.. was he.d lust evening ill the iodperooin. l.onie-sireel. There was a large attendance of members, Noble Grand F. Martin presiding. The report and balance-sheet for the past year showed that the lodge ha_'j increased in value by £970 6e 8d for t.he year, in .*pite of the fact that the sickness experienced wa.< abnormally heavy. .£IO3O 12s 6d having been paid under that heading. The sum of £149 wa3 paid for death claims, while medical and medicirio payments amounted to £165 12s 3d. The total value of all lodee funds was stated at j.'i5,361 7s HI. while t.he membership is 536. an increase of 24 for the 12 months ending December 51 last. The steady progress of the lodge is shown in a, sjxiciallyprepared table issued with the balance-sheet. This shows that the capital had increased from £17,501 in 1890. to £25.326 in 1907. and members in the same period from 352 to 555. The officers for the ensuing six months are Brother F. Martin, Noble Grand: Brother I'. A. Stewart, Grand Master; Brother K. Martin, Vice-grand: Brother 1". MrCuet, elective secretary; Brother F. A- Smith, lecture master. The following elections for the ensuing 12 months took place last evening; —Brother A. B. Doughty, trustee (re-electedl, Brother 0 Westphai, permanent secretary (re-elected). Brother .1, Clark, treasurer (reelected); Brothers A. H. I'happel 1. F. ,1. Fenton. and 11. A. A. le Houx auditors (reelected i; Brot hers E. H. Ilea ley. John Ol'irk. and C. J. Strong, de'epates to the A.F.F.S 1). Committee (re-elected): Brother C. A. Burrow. pianist (re-elected); and Brother C. .1. ■Strong caretaker re-elected). There were nine candidates for the six deputies required for the district meeting to be held next month, and after a ballot the following were elected; Brothers E. 11. Healey. John Clark, John Kdgar. F. J. Fenton, A. 11. Chanpell, and J. 1.. Wilson. The secretary, Brother Carl Westphai. received an extra bonus of £15 for last year's services, and an increase of salary for the corning year. The retiring grand master. Brother N. L. Holm Biss, received a beautiful 1 rallied certificate, and next lodge night is to have presented to him a guM medal, as an appreciation of the services lie had rendered to the lodge during the past two years.
