WAIHI. THE REPORTED SUBSIDENCE IN THE MINK. A GROUNDLESS STATEMENT. EekkillKxck was made by the. Waihi correspondent of the Hi.it.uj> in yesterday's issue. to a heavy subsidence which had taken place on the Waihi Cold Mining Company's property, as a consequence of the Hood "inch had visited the district. Mr. ('. It. Rhodes, the attorney of the company, states there is no subsidence at all, but merely a landslip on the surface in the new railway cutting now under construction to the No. 6 shaft. As damage to the mine it is not worth speaking of. He explains that the material in the cutting is of a soft. clayey eliaraclrr, and was unsuitable for use for Idling purposes, the result being that it was considerably affected by the heavy rains experienced. A portion of the banks of the cutting slipped in, and cracks were left ill tile surface behind.
