Manila, January 16. A disastrous typhoon swept the islands of Lcyte and Samar, in the Philippines, on the loth inst.

Extensive damage was done on both islands.

One hundred people on Leyte Island were killed.

The barracks of the American troops on the east coast, of Samar were destroyed, also the officers' quarters.
