DEVONTORT SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Devonport School Comm it-toe Inst night the question of the appointment of a. hist assistant, was considered. The Education Board submitted six names, from which two, in the order of preference, were to be recommended. Wio number wai reduced to three, and a ballot was then tniken, and Messrs. McGregor and Vuglar were nominated, in the order named. The headmaster's report upon the staff for the half-year was submitted, and the committee expressed satisfaction with it. F., M.U., in order to thank them for the honour they had done 10 one of their numlicr (Bro. I'. A. F. Burnett. X.G.) in placing him in tint position of X.G. Bio. Burnett presided. After ihe initiation of candidates- the visitors were given the honours of the order. P.G. Bio. I* Houx and N.G. Bio. F. Martin responded. F.S. Bro. A. Poplo replied on behalf of the Manukau Lodge, alter which a musical evening was spent. LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION. A meeting of the Onehunga Liberal and , Labour Federation wa.s held at the For- , esters' Hall, Onehunga, last evening, when Mr. T. Crisp, vice-president, occupied the chair. It was decided hi make any arrangements necessary for the reception «f the Premier, also that- the annual social bo held on February 13, when the charter will be presented.
