MEETINGS.

HOUSE PAINTERS' UNION. The annual smoke social of the Auckland House Painters' Union was held in St. George's Hail on Monday last, the president. Mi. H. Buckler, in the chair. A capital programme of songs and musical items %vas contributed. The following contributed to the evening's enjoyment: — Messrs. Henderson. Dobbs, J. Lewis, Hodgson. Caiiham, McConnoll, F. Donnelly, Jarvis, Webb. Court, Crane. Robertson, Valarins, Beer. Stitr, and F. Moore, and also a large concert graphophone worked by Mr. C. Boitzai. The following; toasts were given: -"The King;" "The Trade (united with the Masters* Guild of fainter?)," responded (o by Mr. Miles, president of the guild: "Kindred Union-;" " The Visitor-." responded to by Mr. M. .1. Bennett. Mr, Miles in a neat speech wished the members of the union on behalf of the guild a happy and prosperous new year. Mr. D. Pureed oflieiate.il as accompanist. All present spent a pleasant evening. MANGERE ROAD BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Mangero Road Hoard was held at the Public Hall, Mange-re, on Monday evening, when there .vere present: Messrs.. 11. R. Mackenzie (chairman), E. ,1. Ellett, .las. Turk, A. Henwood. Chas. Baker, and A. S. Holmes (clerk). Charitable Aid Board; The chairman reported that Messrs. Sturges anil Rutherford had been re-elected to the Charitable Aid Board. Oruarangi Bridge; A letter was received • from the manager of the National Bank ' stating that the Oruarangi bridge account, ( was still overdrawn, and asking to have the saute relieved. Considerable discussion ensued, and as the position was not clear it was resolved to forward the lettel on to Messrs. .1. E. Taylor and Edwin Hall, the late chairman and secretary of the Board. Finance: The clerk announced a credit", balance of £277 13s 9d, after which accounts amounting to £120 .vere passed for payment. Fire Prevention : The town clerk, One hunga, wrote re the advisability of placing a, fire plug on the Mangero bridge in order to minimise the risk of the bridge being destroyed by fire. Resolved that the Council bo requested to forward an estimate of tho cost of placing a pipe and fireplug on the bridge. Fire Brigade Fees: The Onchunga Borough Council-forwarded accounts for services rendered by the fire brigade at the Mangere bridge store and tho first outbreak on the bridge itself. Resolved to disclaim liability for the former, but to pay the latter 1 claim. Surface Water: Permission was granted Messrs. Wallace Bros, to place a pipe under Factory Road to carry off surface water. The Late Poll: Reference was made to the failure to carry the loan proposal at the late poll, and regret was expressed over it. The chairman mentioned that when the Board consulted the ratepayers at the public mooting no opposition was shown. Had the ratepayers then opposed the proposal tho cost of taking the poll, some £20 or more, would have been saved. General Works: The members decided to continue tho general works authorised at the previous meeting.
