EMPIRE SLAIN. By Telegraph..—Press Association.—Copyriffht. (Received Deceinbc 24, 12.52 a.m.) St. Petersburg, December 23. Alexis Ignatieff, a member of the Russian Council of the Empire, has been assassinated in the Zemstvo Hall, at Tvei.

We assume the victim of the assassination to be General Alexis Ignatieff, who, prior to 1904, was Governor-General of the Caucasus, and became notorious by the severity of his measures there. When, the great naval revolt took place at Odessa, in July, 1904, he was sent there to restore order, and he did so with b'.« usual vigour. He wus known as a Jew-baiter.
