London, December 7. The consumption of alcohol during November at West Ham Workhouse cost £6 15s, while in the previous November—that is before the recent inquiry was begun— it was £20.

The master and two officers of West Ham Workhouse, and four members of the Board of Guardians, were arrested in November on a charge of conspiring to defraud the union in connection with a coal contract. One of the guardians committed suicide when on bail.
