THE KING OF DAHOMEY.

Paris, December 10. 'The death is announced of Bcha-n----zin. King of Dahomey.
King Behanzin was deposed by the French, commander, General Dodds, in 1894. Ho advanced into French territory in March of 1892 at the head of. 2000 armed men. Later it was reported that his army consisted of 14,000 well-armed men, and in consequence the French Minister for Marino announced that Dahomey was "blockaded." This meant that operations were not to be undertaken against Behanzin. There was a public protest against tin's policy, and M. Cavaignac resigned, and General Dodds, commander of the French troops in West Africa, was given instructions to march against tho Dahoincyans. Several battles, in which the natives fought desperately, took place in that year, and the war was resumed in 1893. In January, 1894. Behanzin surrendered and was deported, first to Senegal ami then to Martinique.
