NATIVE AND ORIENTAL FAIR.

THE Nativu. and Oriental Fair, which is being held: on the Devonport football grounds, in aid of the funds of the First Auckland lloiointed Rifles' Band, continues to do excellent business. Last evening the grounds presented a most picturesque appearance. They were brilliantly lighted, and hundreds of people -were attracted. During the evening a programme of sporting events were decided* die following being the I results:—

Stall ABiiistants" Race: Miss Wynward, 1; Miss K. Amfjiine, 2. Hurdles Open Handicap, 150 yds: Littlejohn, I 1; C. Raytieis, 2; Vosper, 3. 440 yds Handicap: H. G. Chevis, 1; 8. J. Howard, 2;- CI. Williams, 3. School Athletic Competition: Napier-street, 1; Devonport, 2; Beresford-street, 3. Girls' Race (under 12) O. Shcppard (Devonport), 1; Mary Tui (Devonport). 2. Girls' R;ice (under 14): D. Bennett (Devonport), 1; D Rogers (Devonport), 2. Boys' Knee (under 12): E. Barker (Newmarket), 1; IS. Wynward (Devonport), 2. Boys' Race (under 14): Jarvis (Devonport), 1; Stanton (Napier-street), 2. The fair will be continued this afternoon I and evening,. • . The committee lias made arrangements for a capital programme of band items this afternoon. At two p.m. five bands will muster at the Grey Statue and march in massed order through Queen-street to the Perry Wharf. At, three p.m. a Quickstep competition will lie held at, the grounds at Devonport, and the public will have the chance of witnessing the leading district bands in competition. As all,these bands have nominated for the groat Exhibition contest, and are in active practice, something out of the ordinary may bo expected. Following on the quickstep, a reproduction of the British army spectacle Trail- be given. When produced on Wednesday evening, this item made quite a. sensation. Athletic contests will also be run in conjunction with this programme.
