Ottawa, December 6. The new' British preference proposals have passed the Dominion House. The. Minister for Finance said the Government would be unable to apply the intermediate tariff until the treaties under which Great Britain receives " most favoured nation" treatment had been disposed of.

The present preference given to (i real Britain amounts to 33 per cent. Under the now tariff, the preference is to be even greater. The- intermediate tariff is to be used for the arranging of reciprocal treaties. Great Britain has r ' most, favoured nation" treatment from several countries. Her treaty with Germany had to be renounced by Lord .Salisbury when Canada first, established her preferential tariff, but it,, was afterwards renewed as a. temporary .measure.
