Waihi, Wednesday. A rrßLi'c meeting in connection with the Seddon memorial fund was held on Monday. The Mayor explaned that some time ago a meeting was called for the purpose of doing something to commemorate the memory of the late Mr. Seddon, ■■and it was decided at that meeting to raise money by public subscription, 25 per cent, of the amount collected to be given to the national memorial fund, and the. balance retained by the local committee. The total amount collected was £75 lis, and the meeting would be called upon to decide the particular manner in which the money was to lie spent. The secretary of Waihi District- High School Committee wrote stating that- at the last meeting of the committee he was asked to forward to the Seddon Memorial Committee a. resolution to the' effect that the funds collected be devoted to the establishment of a technical school in Waihi. to be called the Seddon Technical and Agricultural School. Mr. Carpenter said he would support the- application. and would move that, the amount, less 25 per cent., be devoted to technical education. Mr. Foster said he would be very "'lad to see- a technical school in Waihi."but after deducting 25 per cent, for a national memorial fund there would be about £50 left, and this was altogether too small for the purpose proposed by Mr. Carpenter. He would propose that £50 be devoted to erecting three lamps, or one powerful light in the centre of Seddonstreet, about opposite the National Bank.
