PRECUTIONS AGAINS SMALLPOX.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN- CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Wednesday.
" Apparently a good number 01 the Corinthic's passengers are being vaccinated already," said the Chief Health Officer (Dr. Mason) to a Post reporter. "11l all probability there should be no difficulty or delay when the steamer arrives , this morning beyond the ordinary one of examining passengers. The smallpox passenger was landed at the Cape, and there has been no suspicious case 011 board since. I think all the passengers will have seen the sense oi being vaccinated.'' "What will be the position in case many have refused to undergo the operation? ' the reporter a»«ked. "That will depend largely on the result of our inquiries on board the ship,'' replied Dr. Mason. "We have not received full details as to the course of the ailment. We have had only a general statement about the precautions taken. It may be found that the steps taken will not satisfy us. If there is the slightest danger to the colony the passengers will have to go into quarantine.''
