News, dated October 17, has been received of the marriage of Mr. A. H. Hobbs, late of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, Second Contingent, but now in business in s Salisbury, Rhodesia.. Mr. Hobbs is the fifth son of Mr. E. G. Hobbs. of Claudlands, and grandson of the late Rev. John- Hobbs, -Methodist missionary, who came to this country ,in • 1823. ■ The young lady is Miss L. M. "Oooke, late- of Hanbury, England.

A welcome homo was tendered to Mr. T. Philcox, of W. Philcox and Sons, at the Federal Hall last night, on the occasion of his return from .a. tour round the world. The welcome took the form of a smoke concert. Mr. J. Alder son presided, and over 100 workmen and friends were present. The toast of the guest of .the evening was drunk in bumpers. Mr. Philcox gave a brief account of his trip. Other toasts -were honoured, including that of " The Firm.' Musical items were rendered by Messrs. ' Staokpole, Orem, Williams. Fricker. Ab- •: soium, Lonergan, Brough, H. Philcox, and Henderson.
