THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL.

Thames, Wednesday. The ordinary meeting >f the Thames County Council took place yesterday. Tenders for road works were accepted as follows: —Tairua Valley Road, .). H. Prescott, £212; Tapu to Gumtown extension, W. G. Plummer, £224 10s. A letter from the secretary of the Temple Bar Gold Mining Company stated that operations were being commenced in the Temple Bar claim on a large scale, and asking for assistance from the Council towards improving the road to the mine. Referred to the engineer for a report. Mr.. C. W. Hursthou.se, Chief Engineer for Roads, wrote with reference to the Council's agreement to complete the Hikut-aia bridge for £400, and asking if the proposal included the acquisition and construction of the necessary road as well as the bridge it-self. It was resolved that ho be informed that the Council has authority to spend £150 on the Hikutaia Road to the bridge, and is prepared to spend the two grants on tlv: work mentioned. The secretary of the Marine . Department wrote as to the grant for the construction of wharf at Whangamata, that the district engineer at Auckland stated that the shipping trade at Whangamata was not sufficient to justify the expenditure entailed. It was decided that the next meeting of the Council be held on January 15, 1907.
