THAMES WARDEN'S COURT. [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Tuesday. . At- the sitting of the Thames Warden's Court to-day «the following applications were dealt with :—.l. M. Agnew, for a special site at Tairua in connection with the Tairua Triumph special .claim: ft was objected to by Messrs. Masefleld,. Bailey. Parr, and Clay 011 the grounds that the area applied for included special site No: 341 held by them, and on which a, battery and other buildings had been erected.' Mr. Otendon ap- j peared for the applicant and Mr. Miller for the: objectors. Mr. Miller' stated that- an arrangement' had been arrived at, between the parties to divide' the site in question, and asked;for an adjourn' ment till January 18 next, to enable him to put', in the necessary applications. This was agreed to. M. F. Bottrke, for six months' protection lor the Reliance special claim, Moanataiari Creek, recommended for three months: Coronation Gold Mining Company, for six months' protection for the Coronation and Coronation Extended special claims, granted. V. M. Allen, for permission to work the Mascotte special claim, Otanui, with two men for six months: This application was objected to by Alex. Bruce and also by the Thames Miners' Union, 011 the grounds that, the claim had been held by Mr. Allen for some time and only a very small portion of the -trea had been worked ; that rich reefs were known to exist on the claim, and local miners were prepared to take it up and work it. Mr. Miller appeared for Mr. Allen and Mr. Clendon for the union. The applicant stated that he expected to be in a. position to employ six men at the expiration of about four months, but until that, time not more

than two could be profitably employed. He also stated that lie was quite prepared to let, tributes on any portion of the ground (except oil the portion where nis workings were situated, comprising about three acres),- 011 such terms as the Warden should fix. Reduction was granted as follows: two wages men for one month from date of hearing, four men for a further three months, and six men for the balance of the term of six months. Champion Mines, Limited, for six months' protection for tqiecial site and three water-race sites at Nea-vesvilie. extension, of time granted for six months; .1. M. Agnew, for six months' protection for water-race at Tairua in connection with the Tiiirua Triumph special claim, extension for six mouths granted; W. J. IMO- - for permission to work the Thames Big Reefs special claim with two men for six mouths, granted; Oniahu Mines, Limited, for three months' protection for the Sheet Anchor, Capstan and We Three special claims and two water-races at Omahu. granted ; R. J. Hastings, for six months' protection for the Amazon special claim at I'unga Flat, granted ; H. McCulloch, for the Mount Zeeliau special claim at Waiomo, recommended. C. E. Storie, for the Kawhia special claim, at Neavesvibe : The application was granted, together with the Certificate of abandonment, work to be commenced 011 the claim within 21 days. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New Occidental (December 1): The total distance driven is 43ft. and softer country is coming in on one side at an angle. Progress should [ therefore soon lie speedier. "Halcyon (December 1): llav's winze is passing through hard country and "i* down 30ft. On account of the hard country the reel' has pinched to 2in, composed of hard flinty quail/., but the floor of hard country should not last much longer. While prospecting 011 the surface 1 unearthed a new reef, about: loin in thickness, which gives .fair prospects in the dish after pounding. Several colours of gold have been seen in the stone. I put in a crbsscut 15ft. and cut- the reef about 20ft further down the hill witn the same results. By going down the hill and driving a crosscut. 40ft or 50ft to intersect the reef we will get about 40ff, of backs. Waihi Extended (December 1): The main shaft has been sunk Bft for the week, making 121 ft below No. 3 level. A small quartz formation a few inches in width is showing along the north side of the shaft. This may be (he track of the No. 2 lode. Good progress has been made in the No. 1 winze, 17ft having been sunk for the week, i linking 134 it lielow No. 3. At present we have country exposed on the hangingwall, but- I am of opinion that- it is not the true wall and that more quartz will be found behind it. Another splice of stone is coining in from the footwall. so that I cannot tell what width the reef may lie at this point. The stone is still of poor quality. No. 3 winze was started 011 Tuesday and has been sunk 7ft. The stone here looks very well, the reef lie- j ing compact, and fully Bft wide. 1 will sample the winze early in the week. Trafalgar (December 1): Next week . I will start two men to break out quartz from the intermediate level, as 1 am of opinion that we will get some good crushing dirt at. this point. Driving 011 the Shamrock reef at- the low level will also be continued, and as the quartz has a more kindly appearance, and is carrying more mineral than 'hitherto, 1 look for an improvement shortly. The quartz hopper has been erected. New Monowai (November 29): The rise is now up 9611. from the roof of the main No. 4 level (103 ft Iron) the floor of the drive), 22ft. having I teen risen for the week. The quartz in the rise continues the same in quality as in last report, which is remarkably good. In mv opinion you have now a very large block of good payable "01 e nearly opened up tor operat upon. The* road is finished up to the Urol,en Hills section .if the mine, where about 200 tons of ore ate now lead.v for the crushing plant. Tairtta Broken Hills (November 28): The li** on the reef south of the eastern crosscut has been carried up 23rt for the week,' making the iotal height 32tt. As the reel Iteeame very poor during the last 20ft of rising we decided to stop the rice for the present. We have now started driving norih on the course of the reef, and so far the ore body looks well and gives veiy encouraging prospects. The drive south on the course 01 the new reef has been driven about 7ft for the week. The reef is -till small, but prospects fairly well. The main east crosscut- has been extended about 9ft for the week through a nice class of country.

Rising Sim (December 1): The drive on the haugingwall reef is still penetrating an excellent class of sandstone country and good progress is being made. During the week a clay head or break crossed the drive. It. has somewhat disturbed the reef, which iB 4ft wide, with ribs of country through it. I have no doubt the reef will become compact again as the drive advances and gets away from the influence of the break. The prospects have not been quite so good this week as formerly. The total distance driven on this reef is 110 ft from the junction or starting point. An assay taken from the floor of the drive 111 the present face, where the reel is compact, gave a value ot £6 6s 4d pet ton. ,<
