AKARANA RIFLE CLUB. THE members of the Aknrana Hide Club held their usual weekly trophy matches on Saturday afternoon, on their ranee at Penrose. Despite counter attractions the attendance was large, and some interesting shooting: was done, the presence of the president (Mr. P. Keareley) being a further incentive for members to do their very best. The wind was extremely tricky, but th«. light was good until the final shots were being fired. A Glass members fired for Mr. A. M. Myers' medal, and for this Mr. J. J. Buchanan's score, of '93 was the highest... In the B .Ciass the highest scorer was Mr. J. Mcintosh, with 82 points. The' best range scores- of the Hay were the 34 of Messrs. Simpson and J. J. Buchanan, and the 32 of Mr. Mcintosh, at 200 yds. the 31 of Messrs. J. J.-Buchanan. C. Simpson, and J. Carlsen. at 600 yds, and the 28 of Mr. J. J. Buchanan and the 27 each of Messrs. J. F. Atkinson and J. Mcintosh at 700 yds. The No. 3 Natives fired the fifth match in the competition for Lieutenant-Colonel Reed's gold medal at Penrose on Saturday last, the highest scorer on the day to take a trophy presented by Colour-Sergeant King, which was won by Corporal C. S.' Hogan with the score of 64. The conditions provided for seven shots and 'one sighter each at 200 yds and 500 yds. The following are the principal scores: — Corporal C. S. Nathan was elected captain of the company, and Quartermaster-Sergeant 0. Dean was elected subaltern, There was only the one candidate in each case. THAMES RIFLES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORKKSI'ONDENT.] THAMES. Saturday. No. 1 Company Thames RiUi>3 fired the second and final round for the company's medal this afternoon. Tho medal was 1 won by Sergeant Amy with the total of 174, including 22 points handicap. The ranges for both shootings were 500 yds and 600 yds, and ten shots were allowed at each distance. The following are the principal scores:—Sergeant Amy, first shooting 75, second 77 (handicap 22)— total 174: Corporal Newman, 82. 75 (8)—166; Private Brown, 80. 76 (scratch)—ls6: G. Morrison, 56, 69 (30)—155; Wakefield, 58, 72 (241—144. Morrison, jun., also fired today, but was not in the first shooting. He" however, topped the scores to-day b\' recording 95 out of a possible 100.
