THE STOCK DEPARTMENT.

MR. CLIFTON'S APPOINTMENT. [by telegraph. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Sunday. The elevation of Mr. D. Clifton, of Auckland, to the position of chief inspector of stock is generally viewed as an excellent appointment. Mr. McNab informs me that it has been decided as essential in the interests of the Department to place the stock branch on a more satisfactory footing than it has occupied in the past. As chief inspector Mr. Clifton will take over practically the whole responsibility of the work of stock inspectors throughout .New Zealand.
